I left school at 14 and started at Drivers' factory in Barrow in the silk room (making silk stockings).

I was born in 1921 in Sileby Rd, Barrow. When I was 5 we moved to the first council houses in Barrow (in Sileby Rd). We had electricity and inside bathrooms. It was luxury.
