Barrow Beauty Queens

One of the events in the Barrow social calendar in the 40s and 50 s was the selection of a Beauty Queen. We have photographs of two of the winners but can’t find any other information about the event. Where did it take place? Was it connected with another village event, perhaps the May Day celebrations?
