• Summary: The 1880s 1st edition OS map shows limekilns in the north-west corner of the field. These were linked by a track to the limestone pits to the north. The 'pot kilns' were recorded during evaluation in 2005 and excavated in 2006. There was also evidence of quarrying.
• Description: Five sophisticated 'pot' kilns within a rectangular enclosure. They measured 3.9-4.2m diameter (upper section), 2.8-3.3m deep, tapering to 0.9m at the base. They were brick lined. Symmetrically located around each kiln were three vertical flues. At the base of the kilns there were circular brick-built ring flues. A curved metal grill was recovered from a demolition layer. Archaeomagnetic dating gave last firing dates of 1870-1880 and 1885-1910.
