The Sanders Family

John Sanders was born c1808 in Sileby. He married Elizabeth Henson who was born c1807 also in Sileby. They married on 25th July 1826 again in the same village, needing their parents' consent because they were both under 21.In the 1841 & 1851 census’ they were recorded as living in Brook Street, Sileby where John was a butcher & farmer of 85 acres & employed a servant, an apprentice and two labourers who lived with them, or perhaps in an annex. The couple had two children, Henry & Ann. The family has not been discovered in subsequent censuses nor is it certain when the parents died though a John Sanders died in the March Quarter 1879, in Barrow, age 73, which could be him.

John & Elizabeth's son  was baptised on 24th April 1828 in Sileby. He became a butcher in Barrow. In the June Qr 1852, he married Emily Winterton in Leicester. Emily was born in Barrow in c1830 and was baptised there on 7th October 1832. She was the daughter of Daniel Winterton, a stocking maker/framework knitter, and his wife Alice, and the family lived in Church Street, Barrow. Henry & Emily had five children, Elizabeth, John, Sarah, Henry & Charlotte Emily. Tragically the father Henry died in the Mar Qr 1858 at Barrow, aged only 30, leaving his young wife with 4 children & expecting Charlotte Emily who was born posthumously. In the March Qr 1860 in Barrow, Emily re-married a William Brooks, also a butcher. He had been born in Walton-on-the-Wolds  c1835. William & Emily Brooks had four children, William, Arthur Thomas, Michael & George. They were living in North Street, Barrow in 1861, had moved to Church Street by 1871 & to Industry Street by 1881.Emily Brooks died on 28th October 1899 in Barrow. Henry & Emily's son  was born on 22nd August 1854 in Barrow, & baptised there on 22nd October that year. He also became a butcher & grazier. In the March Qr 1881 in Ashby de la Zouch RD, he married Annie Bryan Smith. Annie had been born in March Q 1862 in Ibstock, and was the daughter of William & Eliza Smith. Her father was at this time a blacksmith in Ibstock. The Smith family later moved to Markfield where her father was then a farm bailiff. Henry & Annie were living at 17, North Street, Barrow at the time of the 1881census. They had five children, Florry, Nellie, George Harry, Annie & William. By 1911 Henry was described as a farmer still living in North Street, Barrow. He died on 12th April 1918 age 64, & Annie on 26th February 1936, both are buried in Barrow.

Henry & Annie's son George Harry was born on 7th September 1888 in Barrow. He was aged 22 in the 1911 census & described as a farmer living with his parents in North Street, Barrow.In December Qr 1915 he married Constance Emma Mee in Loughborough. Constance was born on 8th December 1889 in Loughborough & was the daughter of Chetwin & Eliza Mee. Chetwin was a cabinet maker at an engineering company. The Mee family lived at 2, Russell Street, Loughborough, but by 1911 had moved to 8, Pinfold Jetty. George Harry & Constance had two children, William Harry in December Q 1916 & George Leslie in December Qr 1919. At some point the family moved to Glenworth Farm, Cotes Road, Barrow. George Harry died on 29th June 1966, aged 77, & Constance died September Qr 1972 in Loughborough RD, aged 81. Both are buried at Barrow.
