The shop at No.6a High Street (now Indigo), was formerly kept by Tom Corbett, the village barber. As well as being the Barber's, this shop was also a Haberdasher's. Tom used to keep customers entertained with stories of his travels abroad and he was also renowned for selling 'Schoolboy Treasures under the stairs', though there is no record of what those treasures were. Tom disliked shops with over-crowded window displays and so his windows contained only one or two items eg. a shaving brush!
Ted Clarke took over the shop after Tom Corbett retired and he transformed it into a place full of many and varied items - anything from a shotguns to lollipops. Upstairs there was a Ladies' Hairdressers.
Webster and Barnes ( Newsagents) followed Ted Clarke. In more recent years the premises have been used as a Building Society, a Beauty Salon and various hairdressers.
