23 High Street was owned by my parents, Derick and Marian HOWLETT from about 1965 to the early 1970s.
Mum had a wool shop, and Dad had a DIY shop with a joinery workshop in the outbuilding at the back.
They bought it from “Fish” George Clarke who had a fresh fish shop there before....I still have the brass bell he used and left in the outbuilding.
We sold it to Hubbard's butcher who moved their shop there from next door. Their old shop/house was demolished for the present supermarket and chemist to be built.
